Terms & Conditions

Charges

1)    The basis of the charge and anticipated bag for the day will be as per the accompanying invoice; this includes lunch for 9 guns.  The anticipated bag for the day is subject to weather conditions as well as government and other body interference and no warranty is given in this respect.

2)    A 50% deposit of the total fee is payable on receipt of invoice in order for any reservation to be confirmed. The balance of the fee is payable no later than 1st of September.

  • If either the deposit or balance payments are not received at this office on or before the relevant date, then we reserve the right to cancel the day booked on your behalf, whilst still holding you liable for the full payment unless or until the day is re-let.

3)    The full charge includes the provision of all necessary shoot staff on the day, such as beaters and pickers, together with transport around the estate.  Loaders are available upon request; they are not included in the full charge and should be remunerated on the day.

4)    The full charge includes catering as follows: coffee on arrival, mid-morning drinks, lunch (including drinks) and tea.  Numbers for lunch, as well as the names of all guns, must be provided at least two weeks before the day.  Menus will be sent in advance and catering arrangements confirmed by prior agreement.

 5)    The full charge does not include provision of cartridges or gratuities.  We only allow the use of fiber wad cartridges.

 6)    Should the guns wish to exceed the agreed bag for each day, a surcharge per bird will apply to each bird shot over the agreed bag total.

Arrangements for Shoot Day

7)   Either the owner/shoot manager or some other person designated by him will direct the shooting and will accompany the party throughout the day.  The conduct and organisation of the day and the number and order of the drives shall remain entirely at the discretion of the owner/shoot manager or other persons designated by him.

8)   The owner/shoot manager or his agent reserves the right to ask any gun to leave the field if he is shooting in a dangerous fashion.  In such cases no refund will be given.

9)  There will normally be a minimum of 4 drives, starting at 9am.  Guns should meet at St Clair’s Farm at 8:30 am.

10)  Each gun will receive a brace of birds at the end of the day.  Additional birds may be purchased from the Estate at their discretion, at the then market price.

Code of Conduct and Safety

 Shooting tenants are responsible for ensuring that all guns are competent and that they adhere to the “Shooting Code of Conduct” and;

a)    All shooting must be carried out in a sportsmanlike manner. Guns must be aware of protected species and close seasons.  No wildfowl must be shot unless non-lead shot is used (eg. Bismith).

b)     Guns must be unloaded at all times between drives.

c)     Shooting must not commence until all guns are in position.  A whistle/horn will mark the end of each drive and shooting must stop immediately and guns to be unloaded.

d)    Guns must not shoot unless they have a clear and safe line of vision.

e)  When the beaters are within 100 yards of the guns or after a given signal, there must be no shooting in front.  Guns are advised that shooting into cover or dense foliage is not allowed in order to protect pickers, beaters and adjacent Guns.

f)  If crossing fences, dykes, stiles or uneven waterlogged ground, shotguns must be broken and unloaded.  It is sensible to break and unload guns whenever walking or unload the gun and carry in a gun sleeve.

g)  The instructions of the Shoot Captain must be adhered to at all times.  The shoot manager or his agent reserves the right to ask any gun to leave the field if he is considered to be shooting in a dangerous or unsportsmanlike fashion.

Cancellation

11)     Either the owner/shoot manager or some other person designated by him reserves the right to cancel the day’s shooting in the event of adverse weather conditions.  In such circumstances, it is normally possible to arrange a satisfactory refund, or for other days to be offered, but no guarantee on this can be given.  Clients may prefer to take out insurance to cover any such eventualities.

12)      In the event of an act of God, outbreak of disease, poultry movement restrictions or other restriction by the government or other party that require us to cancel the day, we will try to offer alternative days later in the season.  If dates cannot be agreed to the satisfaction of both parties then a refund of 25% will be given.  Notwithstanding the above, Clients are advised to take out insurance to cover such eventuality.

13)     In the event of you informing St Clair’s Partnership that you do not require to shoot on the agreed date, no refund will be available and the full rent will be payable, as mentioned under Charges, unless you are able to provide an alternative party which must be acceptable to the Estate, or unless the Estate is able to sub-let the guns.

Insurance

14)    The Estate is not liable for any death or personal injury arising out of any accident that may occur in the course of a day’s shooting for any reason and it shall be a condition of this agreement that the person booking the day shall ensure that each member of the party of guns shooting shall have a current personal insurance policy for legal liability for accident and/or personal injury and damage to property.

Shotgun Certificate

15)    Each member of the party of guns shooting must hold a current shotgun certificate and be able to satisfy the shoot captain that this is the case.  Any person not holding a current shotgun certificate should be made known to the shoot captain prior to the day so a loader can be arranged to provide instruction and ensure the safety of everyone on the day.

The owner or his representative reserves the right to carry a gun.
